PCI and PA-DSS Compliance 2.0

The PCI Standards Council announced some change for the next version of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), however the majority of the changes will not feature any major changes.  This is welcomed news to merchants given that we’ve all just gone through a major overhaul in preparation for the July 1st 2010 deadline of changes (mainly affecting Payment Application standards or PA-DSS).  The new release is in preparation and will be released in October 2010.

PCI Compliance aims to bring the security and safety of credit card information under control (both online on the web and offline).  Many web hosts are not PCI Compliant, and worse many merchants don’t know what PCI is and how to protect their business.  The PCI Regulation has been in effect since 2005 and some major changes happened in July 2010.

If you’re not already providing Quarterly (or annual) scans to your credit card provider, you may be facing fines.  Check with them as to whether they’re imposing fees and fines.  If you need scanning services, we use McAfee.  We’ve arranged special pricing so that you can save the $100 setup fee by using this link: http://bit.ly/adFl4Z They also provide daily scanning services of the individual files on your site and the server that you’re hosted on.  This will ensure that you’re running the most up to date software and you’re free of exploits and potential back doors for hackers.  We use McAfee Security Scans on our website daily and suggest that you do the same: http://bit.ly/adFl4Z

Keep in mind that most hosting companies do not pay attention to PCI Compliance and consider it the responsibility of the user rather than the host.  This is BAD BUSINESS.  Switch to a host that cares about your site and your business.  Hands-on Web Hosting has been proudly providing PCI Compliant web hosting solutions since 2005 when the rules first were made public by the PCI Council.
